At Optal we’re a firm believer that you’re only as good as your last hire.
We’ve achieved a string of successes in what’s been a stellar year for us already, as we continue to streamline and reinvent how payment processes work across complex industries. But being successful doesn’t necessarily make it easier to find talent, if anything it raises the bar on who we think can add value to the team.

Our rising star, promoting talent and seniority
Despite progress in recent years, the gender gap is sadly still an issue in financial services and FinTech. That’s why the FinTech membership association launched the Women in Fintech PowerList, with the aim of recognising and promoting the achievements of women across the entire ecosystem, to help drive the industry forward. At Optal we recognise diversity in talent, so in Ula, we think they’ve picked a star in the making.
After just four years in the industry and a little over a year at Optal, she’s already made a great impression. Her career has flourished from humble beginnings as a customer services agent to her current role as expert technical analyst within our payment operations function. Ula’s a fantastic person to have in the workplace: she’s clearly passionate about advancing the contribution women make to the payments industry and society in general. Ula inspires other women at Optal to reach their full potential and position themselves for great personal success in FinTech. But then again, we’re biased. We’ll be keeping everything crossed for her when the final list is announced in November.
A great year
On a more general note, Ula’s nomination is the icing on the cake for what has been a remarkable year for all of us at Optal. We’ve been placed as the fastest growing Fintech on the inaugural FT1000 list of Europe’s 1,000 fastest growing companies and named in a separate report as one of the 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain. That’s not all. Optal was also named the UK’s sixteenth fastest growing company, according to another report, and we also have a place on the prestigious Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250.
Reports are all very well, but what really matters is meeting the needs of our customers. We think our range of innovative services is transforming a B2B payments sector held back for so long by inefficient, time-consuming and costly manual processes. With the help of talented and passionate individuals like Ula, we’ll keep on looking for opportunities to add value to organisations across the globe.
